Accelerated Reader

What is Accelerated Reader?

Accelerated Reader by Renaissance Learning is the world’s
most widely used reading management software program.

How it Works...

The Student Reads a Book
  • Students choose books at their appropriate reading levels and read them at their own pace.
  • By using books within their Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD), students can find appropriate books that keep them challenged without being frustrated.
  • Parents should receive a letter with this information from the teacher.

The Student Takes a Quiz

  • There are over 100,000 quizzes to choose from, and more are being added every week.
  • Depending on the length of the book, the quiz will have 5, 10, or 20 multiple choice
questions which test the student’s recall of key characters, incidents, and information.

The Student gets Immediate Feedback

  • As soon as the quiz finishes, the student sees their score.
If they passed the quiz but answered some questions incorrectly, they have the option to review the missed questions.
