History

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish was established on July 14, 1932 with the Most Rev. James Peter Davis as the founding pastor. It was not until September 8, 1945, under the pastorship of Rev. Bernard L. Gordon, that the school opened with seventy-five students and two classrooms. The Sisters of Charity were the early educators of the children. In 1957, the parish was relocated to 2117 South Rural Road. Rev. Daniel McCready began developing the new parish site that included an eight-classroom school.

Today, there are approximately 500 students enrolled in the kindergarten through eighth grades. Our Lady of Mount Carmel has twenty-four teachers and administrators. The school has nineteen well-equipped classrooms, a pleasant campus, and a library that has over 12,000 books. The school is certified and accredited by the Western Catholic Education Association and the North Central Association.
